The Coffee Substitute That Actually Works

Going off coffee this week for the 7-Day Cleanse is a big deal for me. I love good coffee.

But here’s my secret: I’ve been drinking organic Guayusa tea — and it’s been a game changer.

You can certainly go with green tea or Yerba Mate, but my current favorite is Guayusa, a cousin of Yerba Mate native to the Amazonian rainforest. What makes it special is its unique combination of natural stimulants:

  • Caffeine — more than green tea, for sustained energy
  • Theophylline — also found in green tea; produces a clarifying, uplifting effect
  • Theobromine — also found in dark chocolate; creates a pleasant, relaxed feeling

This trio is what gives Guayusa its signature “clean energy” — no jitters, no crash. The Amazonian hunters who have used this plant for centuries call this feeling mental strength and courage.

What Else Is in It?

Guayusa is also rich in Polyphenols and Saponins, which research suggests may support:

  • Immune function
  • Heart health
  • Healthy inflammation response
  • Cholesterol balance
  • Bone health
  • Potential anti-tumor and anti-cancer effects

It also contains Theanine — the same calming compound found in green tea — which soothes the nervous system and supports brain restoration. Rounding it out are 15 essential amino acids and a solid mineral profile including potassium, magnesium, calcium, zinc, and chromium, plus vitamins C and D.
