Saliva and Blood Testing

Saliva Test

In many scenarios saliva testing is recommended over the more conventional testing methods such as blood serum testing. Saliva specimen collection is simply done in your own home and when stored properly, saliva samples are stable for many weeks. Some of the major advantages of this type of testing are:

  • affordability
  • ease of collection
  • the ability to track natural fluctuations in a daily or monthly cycle
  • the ability to clearly see “unbound hormone levels”
  • accuracy rate of 92-96%

Most often we recommend saliva testing for any hormone related issues including fertility and menopausal symptoms, suspected food intolerances or other digestive issues.

The method of testing our lab uses is called ELISA (Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) testing. There is no predictable correlation between how much total hormone is in the blood serum and how much free hormone goes into the tissues, therefor saliva testing is a valuable option that helps us see beyond what a blood hormone test will see. Testing the saliva enables us to determine what your “unbound” hormone levels are, which inherently provides more accuracy in determining the health and balance of your hormonal system.

We are all controlled by rythms, and taking them into account is a powerful strategy. Looking at the fluctionations in hormone levels is just as important as looking at their level at any one given point in time, while other testing methods don’t really offer this feature. It is a powerful way to determine the best course of action.

Blood Tests

Many people want to know more detailed information about their biochemistry than a standard blood test offers or than their insurance will cover. We have teamed up with DirectLabs in order to offer you the most discounted and convenient blood labs available.

Checking your basic blood levels of cholesterol, Vitamin D, or omega 3 fatty acids without waiting for a doctor or getting a comprehensive blood panel is simple - you don't even need an appointment. If you are under-insured, have a high deductible, or you do not have a wellness benefit on your health plan, give us a call or schedule a free consult to start the process.

Remember that the earlier a problem is detected, the easier and more likely it can be corrected.

Stool Test

Occasionally we need to test the stool in order to look for parasites or inflammation markers that may have been overlooked. This is done simply at home with the provided test kit and shipped directly to the lab. As with all of the tests we offer, your results are confidential and will be sent to our office. Once we receive the results we will forward them to you and with you we will determine an appropriate action plan to address any issues that show up.
